Jenna Gets Creative says:

I'm an artist and lifelong hobbyist writer who did a lot of computer graphics course work in high school (even though it was the early 2000s). In 2020, I'm absolutely going to get out there and sell graphics / apply to freelance jobs to do graphics. I'm planning to do book cover designs on a few specialty markets that do that. I'm in the process of writing up a "how to plan your characters" type guide to sell as an ebook. I already have a lot of my artwork uploaded to print on demand services like Red Bubble and Zazzle. I already transcribe & caption on a casual basis with Rev. I like the idea of freelancing as a social media manager or virtual assistant. That's definitely something I'll look into as well. I am also a YouTuber, though still a microscopicly small channel at the moment, and my goal is not and never has been simply to get monetized and coast on adsense revenue. I've seen the adpocalypses. My goal is to build an audience who will seek out my artistic services and products, and attract brand deals / sponsorship and brand ambassador positions with art related companies.

Something I constantly hear people recommending to artists trying to make money as a freelancer that annoys the heck out of me is "sell at conventions!" Why?
1. This requires the initial investment of ordering your prints, enamel pins, etc. that you'll be selling up front.
2. Additionally, tables at conventions aren't free. Some aren't even cheap.
3. I live on an island with less than half a million people. The "artist alley" type opportunities that are accessible to me are a handful of craft fairs / farmer's markets and a single annual SF/F convention.
Bonus: Most successful sales at conventions are fan art, which is a very muddy mess of legal grey zone.

Rock Climbin' Grandma says:

I choose… influencer…..LOL. I think I'll make videos and help people make videos or get a message out there.

CAMS Graphics says:

different audience now Roberto

KJH Promote You says:

I want to become a YouTuber but I lost I purchase the starter kit and join the group but I don't know how to set up my Youtuber page.

SWGA SickleCellAwareness says:

Great video!

Jen Hardie says:

I feel like you are skilled in everything Roberto, and I am skilled in nothing. I couldn't do any of those side hustles lol

Just Frugal Me says:

This video couldn鈥檛 have come at a better time! I have a YouTube channel 2 about personal finance. Thank you so much for sharing your perspective on making money!

Marcos Arias says:

Some nice tools to use to start a small business.

Scully's House of Thrillers says:

Logging your knowledge into the brain.

TronJacob Jones says:

I鈥檓 starting with freelance photography which strengthens my social media marketing skills

DE Nichols says:

I really appreciate the connections you made about being a photographer. Using your skills for free to help the businesses your asking for clients from? That'd make hot leads instead of cold ones. It's just like all the collaboration, which I expect from you on your channel at this point to bring other professionals to your channel as well. I know all of that takes tremendous effort and I appreciate all you do.

TheAndySan says:

1 – I could see myself doing something like that! Gotta work on my network first though!
2 – I'm decent at graphic design, but it's not something I want to do all the time. Maybe as a minor side hustle.
3 – Paid photography/videography is what I want to get into for sure, mostly videography! I do worry about my current gear not being up to snuff for some pro gigs, but I could always rent gear should they request it (on their dime of course).
4 – Being an influencer would be interesting, but right now I don't have a deep enough audience yet to support it.
5 – Just like with SMM, I could do this too!
6 – I used to do some (barely) paid blog writing back in the day, and I was okay at it. Could be a minor side hustle.
7 – Hey, that's what I mainly do these days, aside from school and eBay selling! I definitely want to expand my network so I can get more opportunities to work with other creatives and be able to sustain myself while doing what I love!

Andre Smith says:

I have had an interest in video editing for quite some time now. I think I鈥檓 going to research that further.

J.M. Hunter says:

There are about 4 maybe 5 of those lists that I can do, or have experience in. What originally led me to your channel was when in 2015 I lost my job and wanted to use my Graphic Design degree but didn't know how much I should quote clients. After a few of those videos, my interests sparked as a content creator.

TruckerBeetleBailey.com says:

I found you….

Pipe Cleaner Crafts B says:

I used to do information retrieval as a side hustle

Euro Auto Enthusiast says:

I have been a content creator for almost a year now. With that said, I have been doing photography and video editing for the same amount of time for my channel and Instagram presence. Having watched your video, I can honestly say that I am most excited when editing the videos. So I am going to share my talent and skills with video editing and bring value to the market place in this role! Thanks Roberto for this video because I actually drew this conclusion while responding. Who knew 馃槉馃檹馃徑馃挴

Roberto I erased my comment and made a new one before I saw that you commented under my comment. I should鈥檝e waited and listened to the whole video before I made my comment. So after you broke it down and I understood. Go read my new comment.

Gene Hobbs says:

Thanks for this Adobe Spark! I use the tool for thumbnails now and love it.

Consulting is where my side work has taken me. I started doing things to help my community but finally gave in to the requests so content has taken a back seat. Sometimes the market shows you where you should be.
