Dr. Sandoval continues his discussion on Wisdom Literature and the book of Ecclesiastes with the Peoples bible class.

Dr. Timothy J. Sandoval joined the Brite Divinity School faculty in 2013 as associate professor in Hebrew Bible. Prior to joining Brite, Sandoval was on the faculty of Chicago Theological Seminary. In addition to his faculty appointment, he has served as interim academic dean and vice president for academic affairs, directed the seminary’s doctoral degree program and led its online and distance learning initiatives.

In addition to his teaching and scholarly work related to Proverbs and the Bible’s wisdom literature, Sandoval’s work focuses on questions of ethics, justice and poverty in the biblical world and in modern society. He is also interested in how different communities, especially Latina/o communities, interpret the Bible.

Born and raised in the Bay Area just south of San Francisco, Sandoval completed his undergraduate studies in history with a minor in religious studies at the University of California, Davis, and earned his M.Div. degree from Princeton Theological Seminary, where he received the American Bible Society Award for Excellence in Biblical Studies. While completing his Ph.D. in Hebrew Bible at Emory University, he began teaching in Emory’s undergraduate Emory College and the Candler School of Theology, joining Candler’s faculty full-time as a visiting instructor.

He is author of Money and the Way of Wisdom and The Discourse of Wealth and Poverty in Proverbs and co-editor of two other books and numerous articles.
